Physician Survey
In advance of the Johns Hopkins-American Healthways outcomes summit, conference delegates were asked to complete a brief questionnaire on pay-for-performance. The results were presented during the summit and discussed among participants. Overall, 146 participants completed the survey, which constituted nearly 75 percent of conference attendees.

Key Findings
Three out of four (75%) delegates said that they think that the quality of medical care would improve if doctors could get extra pay for superior performance.

Almost one-half (45%) of the delegates participating in this survey said that doctors should tell patients that they were eligible to receive extra compensation.

Approximately 22 percent of delegates said patient satisfaction scores should have a great deal of influence on bonus pay decisions, while another 62 percent said this measure should receive at least some attention.

When prompted on what specific activities should be considered for bonus pay, physicians ranked the options in the following way:
